Chinese Experts Lead Angkor Restoration Efforts in Cambodia

For over 25 years, Chinese archaeologists have partnered with Cambodian experts to safeguard one of Southeast Asia's most iconic heritage sites. Since 1997, teams from the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage have deployed cutting-edge restoration techniques at Angkor Archaeological Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site attracting millions of visitors annually.

Their landmark projects include stabilizing the massive sandstone tiers of 11th-century Ta Keo Temple and reviving intricate carvings in Siem Reap's ancient urban complex. These collaborations blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, preserving delicate bas-reliefs depicting Hindu epics and Buddhist iconography.

'This partnership shows how cultural exchange can transcend borders,' says Dr. Li Xiaojie, lead conservator. 'We're not just restoring stones – we're reconnecting shared histories.' The work aligns with UNESCO's Sustainable Development Goals by promoting intercultural dialogue through heritage preservation.
