While studying journalism at Peking University, Bangladeshi student Md Mahedi Hassan Sunny turned his lifelong passion for photography into a mission: documenting China’s cultural diversity, technological strides, and social transformations. From the snow-capped stages of the Beijing Winter Olympics to the bustling innovation hubs of Yizhuang, his lens reveals stories often untold.
Cultural Mosaics in Xinjiang
Sunny’s travels through the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region showcased vibrant ethnic coexistence. “I saw Uygur artisans teaching traditional crafts alongside modern tech workshops,” he recalls. His images capture festivals, markets, and daily life where heritage and progress intersect.
Poverty Alleviation in Action
In Fujian and Jiangxi, Sunny documented rural communities transformed by China’s poverty reduction initiatives. Solar-powered farms, new schools, and eco-tourism projects highlighted sustainable development strategies reshaping livelihoods.
From Winter Olympics to Tech Frontiers
At the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Sunny joined the ‘Salute to the People’ performance, blending art and technology. Recently, he explored Yizhuang’s Autonomous Driving Pilot Zone, where AI-powered vehicles and smart infrastructure paint a future of urban mobility. “China’s innovations are rewriting possibilities,” he says.
Sunny’s work, driven by the motto “seeing is believing,” aims to bridge cultural gaps. As he prepares to graduate, his next project will focus on cross-border green energy collaborations—proof that a camera can be as powerful as a pen in storytelling.
