Golden Coconut Nominees Applaud Chinese Mainland Audience Engagement at Hainan Festival

This December, the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival showcased over 100 films from around the world, drawing cinephiles and industry insiders to the tropical shores of the Chinese mainland. Among the standouts was "Dry Leaf," nominated for the coveted Golden Coconut Award for Best Narrative Feature.

After the screening, CGTN reporter Liu Mohan sat down with German producers Mariam Shatberashvili and Louise Hauschild. Both spoke enthusiastically about the energy they felt in the theater. "We've seen audiences cheer, laugh, and even shed tears," Shatberashvili recalled. "Their engagement brings our story to life in a whole new way."

Hauschild added that festivals like Hainan Island's are vital platforms for diverse, artistic voices. "Events like this break down cultural barriers and open doors for emerging filmmakers," she said. "They're where the magic happens 6 conversations spark, collaborations form, and new narratives find their stage."

From digital-savvy students live-tweeting scenes to travelers exploring local cuisine between showings, the festival buzz is a reminder of cinema's power to unite global audiences. As the Golden Coconut race heats up, "Dry Leaf" and its fellow nominees prove that great stories know no borders.
