In a nod to history and hospitality, the organizing committee of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, set for October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju, South Korea, has unveiled a prototype logo inspired by the 1,000-year-old Silla Smile.
This charming motif, known as the Silla Smile, originates from a Roof-end Tile with Human Face Motif unearthed in Gyeongju—the former capital of the Silla Kingdom—during the early 20th century.
Now housed in the Gyeongju National Museum, the Silla Smile has become a symbol of the city’s rich cultural heritage and timeless artistic spirit.
By weaving this ancient smile into its branding, the 2025 APEC hosts aim to greet global leaders with warmth and tradition, bridging millennia-old artistry and modern diplomacy.
