Yushu’s Khampa Parade Brings Tibetan Culture to Life

On July 24, the streets of Yushu, Qinghai Province, transformed into a vibrant stage as thousands gathered for the annual 'Dashing Khampa People' cultural parade. This festival brought to life eight main elements of Tibetan intangible cultural heritage, celebrating the rich traditions of the Khampa people.

Nearly 2,500 performers from Yushu and Nagqu in the Xizang Autonomous Region participated, clad in colorful traditional costumes. The parade offered an immersive journey through Khampa Tibetan customs, blending centuries-old art forms with community spirit.

Yushu – located at the source of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers – has long been a cultural crossroads. In 2017, it was designated a Tibetan cultural ecological protection experimental zone, reinforcing its role in preserving and promoting Tibetan heritage.
