June 20 marks World Refugee Day, a UN-designated day to honor refugees across the globe. This year, rock guitarist and singer MIYAVI, appointed as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2017, is spotlighting the power of music in humanitarian work.
As the first Japanese national to hold this role, MIYAVI has visited refugee camps around the world. 'Humanitarian activities are a fuel for me,' he told CGTN in a recent interview. 'It is the influential power and how you use that power for the community, for the world, for the future.'
MIYAVI also warns of a troubling trend: declining global funding to the UN. 'When the economy goes down, we all suffer,' he said, urging listeners to donate and support refugee programs.
Through live performances and workshops, MIYAVI brings joy to children facing displacement. His story shows how creativity and compassion can unite communities and drive real change.
On World Refugee Day, MIYAVI invites music fans, activists, and young changemakers everywhere to join his mission and stand with refugees by lending their voices and support.
