Moscow Family Spanning Three Generations Sings ‘Katyusha’ for 80th Victory Anniversary

In a cozy courtyard near Moscow's Victory Park, a three-generation Russian family turned to song.

Ahead of the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, journalists from China Media Group (CMG) met grandparents, parents and a child who shared memories of lost relatives. In a spontaneous moment, CMG reporter Li Xueyao was invited to join them in singing Katyusha, the beloved wartime folk song. Cameras rolled as voices rose in unison, bridging cultures through music.

'My grandfather used to whistle this tune while marching,' said the family's eldest, his eyes misting at each verse. As Li Xueyao sang alongside them, the group recounted stories of siblings and spouses who fought on the front lines, weaving personal history into every refrain. Their videos, captured against the backdrop of blooming chestnut trees, have since spread online as a tribute to shared sacrifice.

As the world looks ahead to Victory Day, moments like these remind us that remembrance transcends borders. In honoring their ancestors, the Moscow family and a reporter from the Chinese mainland have created a new chapter in an age-old song – one that resonates across generations and nations.
