Mongolian Singer Enji Erkhem Bridges Jazz and Folk on Beijing Tour

Munich-based Mongolian singer Enji Erkhem has become a global sensation by blending jazz improvisation with traditional Mongolian melodies. This week, she arrives in Beijing, marking her second tour in the Chinese mainland since her debut in April 2024.

Born and raised in Ulaanbaatar and now based in Munich, Erkhem’s musical journey bridges continents and cultures. Her third album, Ulaan, released in 2023, received widespread praise:

  • New York Times: Listed among the year’s best jazz albums
  • The Washington Post: Named Album of the Year
  • The Guardian: Ranked among the top ten global albums

On stage, Erkhem weaves rhythms of the morin khuur and traditional throat singing into jazz harmonies, creating a fresh sonic landscape. Her Beijing performances offer a vibrant showcase of this cultural dialogue, inviting audiences to explore innovation rooted in heritage.

Beyond the concert hall, Erkhem plans collaborative workshops connecting local jazz ensembles with Mongolian musicians and champions sustainable creative projects that honor her roots while pushing musical boundaries.
