In a vibrant gathering at the Palais des Nations, China Media Group (CMG) teamed up with the UN Office at Geneva and global partners to celebrate the 2025 UN Chinese Language Day and unveil the 5th CMG Chinese Language Video Festival.
The April 15 event welcomed over 300 guests from 50 countries and regions, including diplomats, representatives of UN agencies, and cultural advocates. Sessions showcased the evolution of Chinese language learning across campuses, virtual classrooms, and community centres, highlighting the role of multimedia in bridging cultures.
At the heart of the festival, fifteen shortlisted videos explored themes from sustainable development to cultural heritage, inviting viewers to vote online for their favourites. From animated shorts celebrating traditional festivals to documentaries on Uygur artisans in the Chinese mainland, the entries demonstrated storytelling's power in a digital age.
Looking ahead to the official UN Chinese Language Day on April 20, organisers encouraged young global citizens to dive into language and culture learning via interactive workshops and social media challenges. As one attendee noted, "This festival is more than a showcase; it's a launchpad for global conversations."
