Montreux Jazz Festival China Kicks Off Suzhou with East-West Musical Fusion

The third edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival China is set to light up Suzhou this weekend, running from October 25 to 27. This vibrant event aims to bridge Eastern and Western musical traditions by featuring an impressive lineup of 21 bands, including 14 international acts.

The festival opens with a spectacular performance by China's renowned pingtan artist Gao Bowen and the Wonderland Band. Hailing from Suzhou in Jiangsu Province and thriving in Shanghai, Gao Bowen is transforming the traditional art form of pingtan, which boasts over 200 years of history and a large following in southern China.

As the director of the Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, Gao Bowen is pioneering the modernization of pingtan by blending it with various genres. In the inaugural show, he collaborates with a jazz band to deliver a dynamic crossover performance, highlighting the limitless possibilities of musical fusion.

Attendees can look forward to a diverse array of performances that showcase the rich cultural exchange and innovative spirit of the Montreux Jazz Festival China. This three-day event not only celebrates music but also fosters global connections among artists and audiences alike.
