In a significant move to enhance the health and well-being of young learners, China has mandated that primary and middle school students engage in at least two hours of physical activities each day. This new policy, announced by Wang Jiayi, vice minister of education, aims to address prevalent eye and weight issues among students by ensuring they receive adequate exposure to sunshine and physical exercise.
The daily routine will comprise one dedicated sports class and an additional hour of physical exercise after regular classes. This structured approach is designed to integrate physical activity seamlessly into the students' schedules, promoting a balanced lifestyle.
Additionally, starting this autumn semester, Beijing will extend the mandatory education break from 10 minutes to 15 minutes between classes. Municipal education authorities believe that this extended break will provide both teachers and students with more time to relax and recharge, while also encouraging outdoor activities that contribute to both physical and mental well-being.
