19th Changchun Film Festival Launches to Celebrate Cinema’s Legacy and Innovation

The vibrant city of Changchun in the northeast Chinese mainland's Jilin Province has kicked off the 19th China Changchun Film Festival with great enthusiasm on August 28. Running until September 1, this annual event marks a significant milestone in celebrating the rich heritage and innovative spirit of Chinese cinema.

Featuring six main sections, including grand opening and closing ceremonies, the festival showcases a diverse array of films and activities. Fifteen films have made it to the final competition for the prestigious Golden Deer Awards, with titles such as Pegasus 2, Endless Journey, Only the River Flows, Viva La Vida, Article 20, and A Place Called Silence vying for the top honors.

The Golden Deer Awards recognize excellence in ten categories, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor, highlighting the outstanding talents shaping the future of filmmaking. Beyond the competitions, the festival offers a mix of outdoor and indoor public screenings, insightful forums, high-level summits, and enchanting symphony concerts, all of which underscore Changchun's pivotal role as the birthplace of Chinese cinema.

Established in 1992, the Changchun Film Festival transitioned from a biennial to an annual event in 2021, reflecting its growing influence and the dynamic nature of the film industry. This year's festival aims to inspire and nurture innovation and creativity among Chinese filmmakers, contributing to the sustained growth and global recognition of the industry.
