For over six decades, Dongyang Bamboo Weaving, an intangible cultural heritage item in the Chinese mainland, has been at the center of He Fuli's artistic life. Now in his eighties, He has tirelessly refined his skills, transforming from a novice apprentice into a master craftsman.
In 2004, He Fuli faced the most significant challenge of his career: restoring the bamboo masterpieces housed at Juanqinzhai in the Forbidden City. Leveraging his perseverance and decades of hard-won experience, He employed a range of nearly lost techniques, including Fanhuang bamboo carving and bamboo marquetry.
His dedication ensured that the priceless woven bamboo treasures of the Forbidden City were meticulously restored to their former glory, preserving a vital part of China's rich cultural tapestry for future generations.
