Ukrainian-Russian PhD Student Highlights Youth’s Impact in SCO

As the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) commences in Astana, Kazakhstan, the spotlight is on regional stability and enhanced cooperation. Russia, a pivotal member of influential multilateral groups like the SCO and BRICS, plays a significant role in these discussions.

In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Enoch Wong, Melissa Baidak, a Ukrainian-born Russian PhD student currently studying at Beijing Foreign Studies University, shared her insightful perspective on the vital role of youth within these organizations. Baidak emphasized that young people are essential in driving innovative solutions and fostering lasting peace across the region.

She believes that by actively engaging in the SCO, youth can bridge cultural and political gaps, promoting a more connected and cooperative world. Baidak's views resonate with the broader objectives of the SCO, which aims to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborly relations among member states.

“The future of regional stability lies in the hands of the younger generation,” Baidak stated. “Our active participation and fresh perspectives are crucial in addressing the complex challenges that lie ahead.”

Her insights shed light on the importance of empowering young individuals to take on leadership roles within such organizations, ensuring a sustainable and peaceful future for all member states.
