Membership expansion is taking center stage at the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held recently in Astana, Kazakhstan, from July 3 to 4. Among the nations eyeing a seat, Belarus stands poised to become the 10th official member state.
Enoch Wong of CGTN interviewed Holdin Hanna, an international relations undergraduate from Belarus State University who is currently on exchange at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Hanna shared her enthusiasm about Belarus's potential inclusion in the SCO, describing it as "a light in our future."
She highlighted the opportunities that membership could unlock for Belarusian youth, particularly in academic and cultural exchanges. Hanna also expressed optimism about China's role in supporting economic growth in Belarus and the broader region during its upcoming rotational presidency.
As Belarus prepares to join this influential regional bloc, the move is seen as a strategic step towards deeper collaboration in education, culture, and economic development, aligning with the aspirations of young global citizens and business enthusiasts.
