CMG Signs Key Copyright Deals for Paris 2024 Olympics at Beijing Conference

China Media Group (CMG) hosted its 2024 Copyright Ecology Cooperation Conference in Beijing on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the organization’s efforts to enhance its global media partnerships. As one of the main broadcasters for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), CMG has solidified its position by signing coverage agreements with China Mobile's entertainment platform Migu and popular short video platforms such as Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

In addition to these digital partnerships, CMG also inked copyright cooperation agreements with major publishers, including the China Publishing Group. Peng Jianming, general director of CMG's executive office, emphasized the crucial role of copyright protection and development in fostering innovation, safeguarding technological advancements, and promoting high-quality economic and social growth.

Peng highlighted CMG’s expansive reserve of copyright resources and its strong capacity for original content production. He noted that CMG's extensive coverage, diverse business forms, and significant program production scale position it as a leading comprehensive international media carrier. This capacity is demonstrated through several popular brand programs that resonate deeply with audiences and have a substantial social impact.

The signing ceremony aimed to harness industry expertise, using copyright as a bridge to drive CMG's new quality productive forces and communication power. Yan Xiaohong, chairman of the Copyright Society of China, remarked on the Olympic Games' role as a global sports event that serves both as the pinnacle of athletic competition and a conduit for cultural exchange, carrying immense commercial value. Yan stressed the importance of copyright protection in ensuring that Olympic trademarks and events are safeguarded against misuse and infringement.

Sun Baolin, director general of the China Copyright Protection Center, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the significance of copyright in developing new high-quality productive forces and maintaining China’s image as a committed global player. Zang Yongqing, vice president of China Publishing & Media Co., Ltd, expressed enthusiasm for the deep-rooted and expansive cooperation with CMG, aiming to leverage both parties' strengths to advance high-quality copyright initiatives.

Anne-Sophie Voumard of the IOC extended her gratitude to CMG via video message, acknowledging the group's unwavering commitment to broadcasting and reporting the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. She underscored the IOC’s collaboration with partners like CMG to uphold copyright laws and foster an environment that values intellectual property rights and innovation in sports.

The conference also launched a special campaign focused on the innovative development and management of CMG's valuable intellectual property resources, aiming to promote the creative evolution of fine traditional culture.
