UN Approves China-Backed Resolution to Celebrate Dialogue Among Civilizations

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) has warmly welcomed the UN General Assembly's unanimous adoption of a resolution proposed by China. This landmark decision establishes June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, a day dedicated to fostering understanding and cooperation across diverse cultures.

Speaking at the 78th session of the General Assembly, Miguel Moratinos, UN under-secretary-general and UNAOC high representative, expressed his enthusiasm for the resolution. \"I welcome the adoption of the General Assembly resolution 'International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations,'\" Moratinos stated, highlighting the significance of this initiative.

Moratinos extended his gratitude to China and all member states for recognizing the vital role UNAOC plays in promoting respect and understanding among different civilizations, cultures, religions, and beliefs. He emphasized the importance of UNAOC's Global Forums, which serve as a global platform for dialogue among state and non-state actors, including civil society organizations, religious leaders, youth, media, artists, and athletes.

The resolution underscores that all civilizational achievements are the collective heritage of humankind. It advocates for respecting the diversity of civilizations and emphasizes the crucial role of dialogue in maintaining world peace, promoting common development, enhancing human well-being, and achieving collective progress.

Moratinos called on the global community to \"celebrate our diversity,\" \"recommit to respect our differences,\" and \"protect human dignity, indiscriminately.\" This call to action aims to strengthen global unity and ensure a harmonious coexistence among the world's diverse populations.
