Madrid Zoo Welcomes Adorable Giant Pandas as Part of Conservation Effort

Madrid Zoo Aquarium has joyfully welcomed two new giant pandas, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing China-Spain conservation program. The official ceremony, attended by esteemed authorities and panda experts from both China and Spain, celebrated the arrival of the charming pair.

The male panda, Jin Xi, born on September 1, 2020, and the female panda, Zhu Yu, born on October 25, 2020, are set to spend the next decade at Madrid Zoo Aquarium. Their presence is a testament to the successful collaboration between the two nations in preserving these magnificent creatures.

The pandas arrived in Spain on April 29 and have recently completed a month-long quarantine period to ensure their health and safety. During their initial months, dedicated Chinese caregivers from Chengdu will remain with them, facilitating a smooth transition and helping Jin Xi and Zhu Yu acclimate to their new surroundings.

This isn't the first time Madrid Zoo Aquarium has hosted giant pandas; the zoo received its inaugural pair from China in 1978. Recently, in February, the zoo bid a heartfelt farewell to a family of five pandas who returned to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan Province, southwest China. The return of Jin Xi and Zhu Yu continues this legacy of international cooperation aimed at giant panda conservation.

The addition of these pandas not only enhances the biodiversity of Madrid Zoo Aquarium but also provides invaluable opportunities for research, education, and fostering global awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
