Renowned Chinese writer Wang Anyi was honored with the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, France's highest order of merit, during a ceremony in Shanghai on Friday.
The French ambassador to China, Bertrand Lortholary, presented the award to Wang in recognition of her exceptional contributions to literature and the enhancement of China-France cultural exchanges.
Speaking at the event, Wang, 70, emphasized the importance of literary exchange, stating, \"Literary exchange has become one of the cherished traditions fostering mutual understanding and connection between China and France.\"
Wang hails from a literary family and has an extensive body of work, including approximately 100 short stories and over 20 novels. Her acclaimed novel, \"The Song of Everlasting Sorrow,\" has been translated and published in France, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
This award coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership.
A passionate advocate for French literature in China, Wang has dedicated much of her career to promoting literary works and facilitating exchanges with French authors. Her efforts have played a pivotal role in deepening the cultural bonds between the two countries.
