In a powerful address on the eve of Africa Day, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema called on African nations to prioritize education for all. Highlighting education as the greatest equalizer, President Hichilema emphasized that investing in resilient and accessible education systems is fundamental for the continent's development.
\"As we celebrate Africa Freedom Day, let us celebrate the power of education in transforming lives and building a better Zambia, better Africa, and indeed a better world,\" he stated.
Africa Day, observed annually on May 25, commemorates the establishment of the Organization of African Unity, the precursor to the African Union. This year's theme, \"Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,\" underscores the critical role of education and skills in driving social transformation across the continent.
President Hichilema aligned Zambia's policies with this theme, sharing that the country is making significant strides in higher education, science, technology, research, and innovation. He outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing access to inclusive and relevant learning opportunities for all Zambians.
He also paid tribute to the continent's forefathers and foremothers whose sacrifices led to Africa's liberation, celebrating the ongoing commitment to pan-African ideals and progress.
