Sandu’ao: Fujian’s Coastal Paradise for Thriving Yellow Croakers

Sandu'ao port in Ningde City, Fujian Province, is renowned for its picturesque coastal scenery and its network of neatly arranged fish farms. These interconnected aquafarms create a spectacular sight, with fish cages floating gracefully on the sea's surface. Here, yellow croakers swim energetically, thrashing their tails and competing for food, embodying the vibrant marine life of the region.

Since 2018, Ningde City has embarked on large-scale comprehensive reforms in offshore aquaculture. Significant investments have been made in environmentally friendly plastic fish cages, innovative small fish cages, and hollow floating buoys. These initiatives aim to phase out traditional wooden fish farms and foam floats, promoting sustainability and efficiency in fish farming practices. To date, a total of 1.427 million fish farms have been cleared, upgraded, or renovated, and the infrastructure of offshore aquaculture has been standardized.

These efforts have transformed Sandu'ao into a veritable paradise for yellow croakers. The region's favorable geographical conditions and excellent water quality provide an ideal environment for breeding these prized fish, supporting both local economies and marine biodiversity. Sandu'ao stands as a model of sustainable aquaculture, balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship.
