“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” Nears 100M Yuan in Chinese Mainland Box Office

The American sci-fi blockbuster \"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes\" has been making significant strides in the Chinese mainland's box office since its May 10 release, amassing over 90 million yuan ($12 million) and rapidly approaching the 100 million yuan milestone.

Released by 20th Century Studios and Disney, the film's impressive performance can be attributed to its captivating visual effects and diverse viewing formats, including IMAX. Erik Winquist from Weta, a visual effects veteran with nearly two decades of experience, shared insights into one of the film's key shots:

\"This long aerial shot that takes us down a river, and we kind of see the skyscrapers open up in front of us. I'd been watching that on loops for weeks and weeks by that point I thought, 'this is going to be great.' And it wasn't until I was sitting close to a very big screen in a screening room and actually watching it in full, that I realized how much more information was there, as I kind of had almost really been cued in on just sitting close to a regular-sized screen, which was really eye-opening. So, you can imagine you take that screening on IMAX size, the experience is going to be really fantastic.\"

The strategic release of \"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes\" in multiple formats has allowed audiences in the Chinese mainland to fully immerse themselves in its stunning landscapes and dynamic storytelling, propelling it towards the significant 100 million yuan milestone in the coming days.
