Imagine a charging network so vast it can power over 40 million electric vehicles: that's the reality in the Chinese mainland, which now operates the world's largest EV charging system, the National Energy Administration (NEA) reports.
By the end of 2025, the Chinese mainland housed 20.092 million EV charging facilities, a key pillar in its push towards cleaner, greener transportation.
Remarkably, the network doubled in just 18 months, rising from 10 million to 20 million units, marking an unprecedented surge in 2025.
Quality kept pace with quantity: the average power output of public charging points climbed to 46.5 kilowatts, a 33 percent year on year increase that delivers faster, more efficient top-ups for drivers.
Accessibility is also a priority. The NEA highlights that 71,500 charging piles are live at over 98 percent of expressway service areas, and 19 provincial-level regions have achieved full coverage in all townships, ensuring rural drivers stay charged on the go.
