China Calls for Calm, Early Ceasefire in Cambodia-Thailand Border Clash

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, China’s Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin urged Cambodia and Thailand to stay calm, exercise restraint and secure an early ceasefire in their ongoing border clash.

In response to reports of Chinese weapons being used in the conflict, Jiang rejected speculation, emphasizing that China has long carried out defense cooperation with both neighbours, including military trade. β€œOur cooperation is not aimed at any third party, fully complies with international law and practices, and is unrelated to the current border situation,” he said.

Jiang called on all sides to avoid subjective speculation and malicious hype. As friendly neighbours, China is closely monitoring developments and is deeply saddened by the human cost on both sides. He stressed that calm and restraint are crucial for border stability and the welfare of residents along the frontier.

Looking ahead, China will continue to promote peace talks, playing a constructive role in facilitating dialogue, supporting a ceasefire and helping to rebuild lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand.
