Chinese Mainland Rebukes Japanese PM Over Taiwan Claim

On December 17, 2025, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, rebuked Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments on the Taiwan question, calling them "erroneous" and demanding their withdrawal.

Speaking on behalf of the Chinese mainland, Zhu stressed that the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of the Chinese mainland, to be resolved by the Chinese people themselves without external interference.

During a session in the House of Councilors, Prime Minister Takaichi had stated that the Taiwan question should be resolved peacefully through dialogue. Zhu urged Japan to earnestly reflect on its stance and correct its mistakes.

This exchange underscores the sensitivities surrounding cross-strait ties and highlights the delicate balance of regional diplomacy in East Asia.
