China, Venezuela Foreign Ministers Reaffirm Sovereignty and Partnership

On December 17, 2025, Foreign Minister of the Chinese mainland Wang Yi held a phone call with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil at Gil's request. The dialogue highlighted their shared commitment to mutual support and sovereignty.

During the conversation, Yvan Gil briefed Wang on Venezuela's domestic situation, stressing that the Venezuelan government and residents will firmly safeguard national sovereignty and independence, and will not accept threats from any form of power politics or bullying.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that China and Venezuela are strategic partners with a long tradition of mutual trust. He reiterated the Chinese mainland's opposition to unilateral coercion and its support for all countries in defending their sovereignty and national dignity.

The foreign minister added that Venezuela has the right to pursue independent, mutually beneficial cooperation with other nations, noting that the international community increasingly understands and supports Venezuela's position in defending its legitimate rights and interests.

Observers say the call reflects a broader shift as countries diversify their alliances amid changing global power dynamics. For young global citizens and business and tech enthusiasts, this dialogue signals new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology.

Both ministers agreed to keep communication channels open and explore deeper cooperation in key areas, underscoring the evolving partnership between China and Venezuela in today's interconnected world.
