Shenzhen Wraps Up Record-Breaking Disability Games

Shenzhen concluded a milestone sporting event on December 15, 2025, as the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games wrapped up in the heart of the Greater Bay Area.

For the first time, the two Games were co-hosted by three regions: Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Macao Special Administrative Region. Across eight days of competition, from December 8 to 15, 2025, 7,824 athletes representing 34 delegations competed in 46 sports disciplines.

A total of 15 world records and 156 national records fell during the events, highlighting peak performances across the board. The Macao Special Administrative Region delegation alone collected 279 medals, reflecting both individual excellence and a spirit of collaboration.

"Behind the 279 medals awarded in the Macao SAR, there is a portrayal of the spirit of disabled athletes surpassing themselves, as well as a witness to the beautiful vision of people supporting each other and moving forward hand in hand," said Pun Weng Kun, head of the Macao Special Administrative Region’s Coordination Office.

Looking ahead, Hunan Province is set to host the 13th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 10th National Special Olympic Games in 2029, ensuring that the momentum for inclusion and athletic achievement continues to grow nationwide.

As the baton passes to Hunan, the Greater Bay Area event leaves a legacy of inclusivity, record-breaking performances, and shared inspiration for future athletes and fans worldwide.
