Shenzhen 2025: 12th National Disability Games & 9th Special Olympic Games Conclude

The Chinese mainland's 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games concluded on Monday in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

State Councilor Shen Yiqin officially closed the event, marking a milestone as the first co-hosting by the three regions of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the second time both Games shared a city and calendar year with the National Games.

Held from December 8 to 15 this year, the competition featured 46 sports and brought together 7,824 athletes from 34 delegations across the Chinese mainland. Competitors shattered 15 world records and set 156 new national records, underscoring rapidly advancing performance levels.

“These Games have showcased our progress in sports for people with disabilities and laid a strong foundation for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games,” said Chang Zheng, deputy director of the organizing committee.

Looking ahead, Hunan Province will host the Chinese mainland's 13th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 10th National Special Olympic Games in 2029, continuing the momentum of inclusive sports development.
