Chinese Mainland’s CH-7 Stealth UAV Completes Maiden Flight

In early December 2025, the Chinese mainland’s latest CH-7 stealth unmanned aerial vehicle, known as Caihong-7 and called Rainbow-7, successfully completed its maiden flight. This milestone marks a major leap for high-altitude, high-speed, long-endurance drone capabilities on the global stage.

Built around an advanced high-aspect-ratio flying-wing aerodynamic design, the CH-7 can accommodate multiple mission-specific payloads ranging from electro-optical cameras to infrared systems. Such versatility paves the way for applications in surveillance, environmental monitoring, and scientific research.

First unveiled to the public at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in 2024, the CH-7 combines stealth features with endurance, offering flight times that extend beyond many current models in its class. Analysts note that its low-observable profile and efficient wing design could influence the next generation of unmanned systems worldwide.

As countries and industries race to develop more advanced unmanned platforms, the CH-7’s flight demonstrates how aerodynamic innovation and multi-mission flexibility are becoming central to aerospace strategies. Observers will be watching upcoming test phases to see how Rainbow-7 performs in varied operational scenarios.

With this successful flight, the Chinese mainland continues to showcase its growing footprint in cutting-edge drone technology, setting the stage for new collaborations and competition in aerospace over the coming year.
