This past Sunday in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, pledged to deepen strategic communication with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He emphasized that closer ties can safeguard shared interests and help both sides navigate a turbulent international landscape.
Meeting with GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Wang praised the council's role as a key sub-regional organization in the Middle East. He noted that the GCC has effectively promoted unity and cooperation among its members and steadily increased its global influence. Reflecting on decades of engagement, Wang highlighted that China established contact with the GCC early on and that their relationship has grown in tandem with China's reform and opening up.
Looking ahead, both China and the GCC aim to:

- Safeguard common economic and security interests
- Respond jointly to global challenges
- Contribute to the collective self-reliance of the Global South
