In a move underscoring a renewed push for international trust, Peng Qinghua, special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping and vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, traveled to Ashgabat on December 12-13 to join the High-Level International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust.
Invited by Turkmenistan, Peng delivered President Xi’s congratulatory letter to an audience of lawmakers, party leaders and civil society representatives—most notably chairperson Dunyagozel Gulmanova of Turkmenistan’s National Assembly (Mejlis). Over two days of people-to-people dialogues, both sides explored ways to translate shared visions into tangible projects.
Drawing from insights at the fourth plenary session of the CPC 20th Central Committee and President Xi’s message, Peng emphasized four pillars: strategic alignment, pragmatic field cooperation, people-centric exchange and joint stewardship of peace. “China is ready to deepen partnership with Turkmenistan,” he told delegates, pointing to cooperative opportunities in infrastructure, green energy and digital innovation.
Turkmen counterparts praised China’s high-level support and highlighted the potential of President Xi’s four global initiatives to bring mutual benefits and bolster regional stability. “This forum captures the spirit of our long-standing friendship,” said a Turkmen Foreign Ministry spokesperson, “and sets a clear path for future collaboration.”
As Central Asia takes center stage in global connectivity—with initiatives like the Silk Road corridors gaining traction—this week’s forum in Ashgabat signals fresh momentum for startups, sustainable tourism and cross-border trade. For young global citizens, the message is clear: building trust isn’t just a diplomatic slogan—it’s the foundation for innovation, cultural exchange and a shared future.
