Chinese Mainland Box Office Surpasses 50 Billion Yuan in 2025

As of 2:30 p.m. on December 13, 2025, according to the National Film Administration, the Chinese mainland's film box office revenue has surpassed 50 billion yuan (about USD 7.08 billion), marking a major milestone for the industry this year.

Audiences have flocked to cinemas, with total admissions reaching 1.194 billion nationwide. Domestic titles led the charge, accounting for 81.9% of the total revenue—evidence of growing local storytelling power.

This year saw 50 films each gross more than 100 million yuan (about USD 14.17 million), including 33 domestic productions and 17 international releases. This blend of local creativity and global appeal has broadened the market's reach.

Top hitters on the 2025 chart include Ne Zha 2, Detective Chinatown 1900, Zootopia 2, Dead to Rights, and 731. From animated blockbusters to historical dramas commemorating the 80th anniversary of WWII's end, the variety has kept audiences engaged and cinemas buzzing.
