China urges Nexperia to send representatives to shore up chip supply chain

On December 11, Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson He Yadong told reporters that Chinese authorities have formally requested, via the Dutch Embassy in China, that the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs urge Netherlands-based semiconductor maker Nexperia to dispatch representatives to China as soon as possible.

He noted that China has been actively encouraging Chinese company Wingtech to negotiate with its overseas subsidiary Nexperia to resolve internal corporate disputes. Wingtech's recent letter to Nexperia's independent directors and equity custodian, inviting them to Beijing for talks on corporate control and supply chain stability, underscores its commitment to finding a solution.

He Yadong framed the current impasse as stemming from what he described as inappropriate administrative intervention by the Dutch government into Nexperia's operations. He called on the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs to take constructive, substantive steps to facilitate behind-the-scenes negotiations.

To demonstrate its responsible stance on global chip security, China has granted export exemptions for compliant semiconductor shipments intended for civilian use. Now, he said, it is the Dutch side's turn to show concrete action in resolving the Nexperia issue.

With semiconductors powering everything from smartphones to electric vehicles, smooth corporate governance and government cooperation are crucial. The outcome of these discussions could set a new benchmark for cross-border dispute resolution in the tech sector.
