Starting Wednesday, December 10, a powerful cold wave is set to sweep the Chinese mainland, bringing plunging temperatures, heavy snow and strong gales, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) warned on Tuesday, December 9.
The Chinese mainland's northwestern regions are expected to see temperature drops of 12 to 14°C during this period.
Over the following four days, snow will blanket northwest and North China, the Yellow River and the Huai River basins, as well as parts of Inner Mongolia and Northeast China. Fierce winds may whip across much of North China, raising risks of gales in exposed areas.
Meteorological experts advise staying warm, monitoring forecasts and exercising caution on slippery roads and low-visibility routes during the upcoming rainy and snowy weather.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration have jointly urged farmers and local authorities to fortify greenhouses against snow loads and safeguard vegetables and livestock from freezing conditions.
