2025 Silk Road TV Community Summit Kicks Off in Yangjiang

The 2025 Silk Road TV Community Summit opened on Sunday in Yangjiang, Guangdong, under the theme “Smart Media Empowers, Maritime Silk Road Embarks Anew.” Nearly 300 representatives from media outlets, academic institutions, cultural and tech enterprises across 20 countries and regions, as well as international organizations, attended the two-day event.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and president of China Media Group, highlighted how the Belt and Road Initiative has evolved from infrastructure and rule-based connectivity to deeper people-to-people bonds. He called for upholding the Silk Road spirit of “peaceful cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit” amid global uncertainties. Shen reaffirmed CMG’s commitment to deepening international media cooperation through its Four Global Initiatives to foster a community with a shared future for humanity.

Hu Jinjun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and director of the Provincial Publicity Department, emphasized that the summit aligns with the new development stage of Chinese modernization. He invited global partners to leverage Guangdong’s dynamic ecosystem, strengthen cultural exchanges, and co-write a new chapter of win-win cooperation.

Leaders from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Arab States Broadcasting Union, and African Union of Broadcasting joined via video, praising the summit as a reliable platform for shaping the future media landscape. Joseph Maina Mururi, chairman of Kenya’s Media Council, spoke on how digital technology and the Belt and Road Initiative can link Africa’s vibrant markets with the Chinese mainland’s technological strengths to amplify diverse voices.

Jiang Haiqing, chairman of China International Television Corporation, released the community’s annual report and unveiled the “Yangjiang Initiative for International Media Cooperation: Silk Road Links Oceans, Wisdom Creates Future.” The initiative calls for tech-enabled media collaboration, green development, and storytelling that brings the Maritime Silk Road to life.

During panel discussions, participants explored AI-generated content, cultural exchanges, and launched new projects including an international communication campaign, a co-produced micro-documentary, multilingual FAST TV translations, and CGTN Spanish broadcasts in Latin America.

Launched in 2016 by China International Television Corporation under CMG’s guidance, the Silk Road TV Community is the world’s first global all-media alliance themed on the Silk Road. It now counts 149 member institutions across 64 countries and regions, serving as a key platform for cross-border film and television exchanges.
