At the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) held earlier this week in Sanya, south China's Hainan province, German composer and sound designer Thies Mynther shared his admiration for local filmgoers.
Nominated for the Golden Coconut Award for Best Short Film for his latest work "Ploo", Mynther joined CGTN's Zhang Meng to reflect on his first visit to the tropical city. 'I've never experienced an audience so attentive and curious,' he said, lauding their impressive engagement with films from around the world.
Beyond the screenings, Mynther praised HIIFF's unique island setting. 'It's very meaningful that an event like this happens on such a beautiful, fascinating island,' he noted, highlighting how the festival bridges cultures against a backdrop of sun-soaked beaches and vibrant local traditions.
Now in its seventh edition, HIIFF continues to draw filmmakers and cinephiles from all corners of the globe, reinforcing Sanya's growing reputation as a hub for creative exchange. For many young filmmakers and enthusiasts, the festival offers a chance to connect, be inspired, and celebrate the power of cinema in a truly immersive environment.
As HIIFF 2025 wraps up, the energy of global storytelling on display at Sanya's coasts underscores the festival's rising influence in the international film scene.
