China-U.S. Economic Ties Anchored by Head-of-State Diplomacy

At the China-U.S. Business Cooperation Forum in Washington, D.C., Ambassador Xie Feng outlined two key contexts shaping the next chapter of bilateral economic relations. First, he highlighted the power of head-of-state diplomacy. Following a successful meeting in Busan and a subsequent phone call between President Xi Jinping and President Biden, these strategic exchanges are set to remain the anchor of China-U.S. ties.

Second, Xie pointed to China’s 15th Five-Year Plan as a “grand blueprint” for steady progress toward Chinese modernization. He emphasized that this momentum is irreversible and underscores new openings for collaboration.

With the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit on the horizon in 2026, Xie Feng urged both business communities to act on three fronts:

  • Expand the list of dialogue – deepen engagement through existing China-U.S. economic consultation mechanisms.
  • Lengthen the list of cooperation – launch practical projects in strategic emerging industries and services.
  • Shorten the list of problems – push back against politicized disruptions and foster positive momentum.

For entrepreneurs and investors, these developments signal a window of opportunity to scale partnerships in key sectors. As next year’s global forums approach, business leaders from both sides have a roadmap for driving growth and stability in the world’s largest economic relationship.
