On Thursday, Chinese premier Li Qiang met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Beijing for talks aimed at deepening the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. The two leaders discussed ways to consolidate political trust, expand economic ties, and inject stability into a turbulent global environment.
“As two major global economies and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, our close strategic communication benefits not only China and France but the wider world,” Li said, noting the importance of coordinated, effective actions in today’s complex landscape.
Li highlighted the strong economic complementarities between China and France, and outlined plans to align development strategies, expand bilateral openness, and strengthen cooperation in traditional sectors such as aviation, aerospace, and civil nuclear energy. He also called for accelerated collaboration in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, green development, and the silver economy.
“China supports Chinese enterprises investing in France, and we hope France continues to provide a fair and non-discriminatory business environment,” Li added, emphasizing the need to resist rising protectionism and unilateralism through timely communication and mutual understanding.
Macron praised China’s recent economic and social achievements and expressed France’s readiness to deepen exchanges and dialogue at all levels. He pointed to shared priorities in renewable energy, agriculture, and technology, and proposed joint exploration of third-party markets to boost global trade and multilateral cooperation.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding free trade and economic globalization, with Macron urging the European Union to maintain focus on the China-EU partnership and manage differences constructively to steer relations in the right direction.
The meeting underscores a mutual desire to chart a forward-looking agenda that balances traditional ties with innovation, benefiting young global citizens, tech entrepreneurs, and changemakers across the G20 and beyond.
