Fujian Province on the Chinese mainland recently passed its first local regulation to promote compatibility and mutual recognition of standards across the Taiwan Strait. The regulation was approved on November 27 and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
At a press briefing, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, highlighted that the regulation encourages joint topic selection, collaborative research and formulation, as well as the comparison and application of standards among relevant sectors on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Drawing on years of experience and pilot projects in Fujian, the regulation places special emphasis on "compatibility" and "uniformity", aiming to streamline cross-Strait collaboration in key industries.
Officials say this landmark measure is a significant step toward building a cross-Strait common market, enhancing the well-being of people on both sides, and deepening integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.
