Kenya Forum Explores 5th Volume of Xi Jinping’s Governance of China

On Dec. 1, 2025, Nairobi’s international community gathered for the China-Kenya Readers Forum, focusing on the English edition of the fifth volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.” About 200 participants—including scholars, policymakers and media practitioners—explored insights from China’s modernization journey and its relevance for the Global South.

The event was co-hosted by China’s State Council Information Office, China International Communications Group and the Chinese Embassy in Kenya. Speakers highlighted how the series charts historic accomplishments, development paths and defining features of China’s path to modernization, offering templates that other nations can adapt to their unique contexts.

“By and large it is a template that many countries can adapt into their national contexts and learn from the Chinese model,” said Hassan Omar Hassan, secretary-general of the United Democratic Alliance of Kenya, underlining the forum’s role in fostering cross-border learning.

Mo Gaoyi, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the State Council Information Office, emphasized the series’ global significance. “These volumes present China’s historic accomplishments and offer valuable approaches for Global South countries pursuing their own modernization,” Mo noted.

Mo also reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepen cooperation with African partners, advancing major global initiatives, promoting high-quality Belt and Road collaboration and implementing key actions to drive shared modernization. “China’s progress will continue to create new opportunities for Africa as we build an all-weather China-Africa community,” he added.

William Kabogo Gitau, Kenya’s cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, praised the forum as “instrumental in helping Kenyan readers fully comprehend Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and its practical results in Chinese modernization.”

Kenya is keen to exchange ideas with Chinese scholars, media practitioners and authors, leveraging lessons from China’s development path. During the event, the Chinese side presented participants with copies of the fifth volume’s English edition, setting the stage for deeper dialogue.

Experts then exchanged views on diverse topics—from governance experiences and the Belt and Road Initiative to China-Africa cooperation, poverty alleviation and cultural exchange—highlighting the breadth of opportunities for collaboration and shared growth.
