Guangzhou, Chinese mainland — The 2025 Understanding China Conference kicked off on Monday, December 1, drawing over 800 global leaders to discuss New Plan, New Development, New Choices – Chinese Modernization and New Vision for Global Governance.
Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department, opened the event with a keynote on the theoretical innovations and practical breakthroughs that have guided Chinese modernization since the 18th CPC National Congress.
Huang Kunming, senior CPC official and secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, highlighted the conference's evolution into a leading platform for the world to engage with development opportunities and collaborative solutions.
Participants pointed to the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee as a strategic blueprint for the next five years, stressing that Chinese modernization aims to benefit both the Chinese mainland and the wider global community.
One scholar noted that this vision of modernization offers a fresh approach to global governance, prioritizing inclusivity, mutual respect, and shared prosperity across borders.
Running through tomorrow, Tuesday, the conference features panel discussions, research presentations, and roundtables with politicians, entrepreneurs, and academics exploring themes from green technology to digital infrastructure.
As discussions continue, attendees will examine how strategies from the Chinese mainland’s development roadmap can address global challenges such as climate change, economic recovery, and sustainable innovation.
