This weekend, the FIS Snowboard World Cup season kicked off at Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou, a city in the Chinese mainlands Hebei province. Home favorite Su Yiming claimed the mens big air title with a total of 174.50 points, putting on a masterclass under strong winds.
After dominating qualifying rounds, the Chinese mainlands 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics gold medalist opened his final with a clean inward 1980 tail-grab for 86.25 points the only mark above 80 in that round. He then stuck a switch inward 1980 on his second run, earning 88.25 points and sealing gold before his final descent.
Sus 21-year-old compatriot Ge Chunyu secured silver with dynamic tricks of his own, while Japans Ryoma Kimata rounded out the podium in third. Each rider combined their two best runs from three attempts, making consistency and creativity key under gusty conditions.
As the season unfolds, Sus strong start signals a renewed challenge on the international stage, setting up rivalries to watch and giving fans plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
