On Monday, November 24, 2025, Madrid hosted the inaugural Spain-China Forum on Green Energy, drawing around 300 representatives from government bodies, industry groups and leading energy firms. Against the backdrop of ambitious climate targets, participants from Spain and the Chinese mainland convened to explore joint opportunities in the green transition.
Spain aims to source more than 74% of its power from renewables by 2030, while the Chinese mainland targets 25% of primary energy from non-fossil sources by the same year. This convergence of goals set the stage for in-depth discussions on:
- Offshore wind and solar PV projects
- Green hydrogen development
- Smart grids and energy storage solutions
- Electric mobility and public-private partnerships
MaraDa Lf3pez, Spain's Secretary of Energy, emphasized the need for cross-border collaboration: "By combining Spain's leadership in renewables with the scale of the Chinese mainland's market, we can accelerate innovation and drive down costs worldwide."
Representatives from Sinohydro, Goldwind and Iberdrola shared insights on pilot projects, including a planned 500 MW solar park in Andalusia backed by Chinese mainland investors, and joint research on grid integration in Castilla-La Mancha.
Industry associations highlighted that deepening ties could unlock up to USD 30 billion in green investments by 2035, supporting jobs and accelerating decarbonization. The forum concluded with a commitment to establish a bilateral working group to track progress, share best practices, and organize annual ministerial meet-ups.
As young global citizens, entrepreneurs and changemakers seek sustainable solutions, this first forum marks a key step toward a greener future powered by international cooperation.
