Hong Kong Chief Executive Mobilizes All Resources After Fatal Tai Po Fire

On Wednesday, 26 November 2025, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), John Lee, chaired an interdepartmental emergency meeting following a major fire that broke out in a residential area in Tai Po. The blaze claimed 13 lives, including a 37-year-old firefighter, and left multiple residents injured.

Lee activated an emergency monitoring and support center and received briefings from the Security Bureau and the Fire Services Department. He instructed all relevant departments to focus on firefighting efforts, rescue operations, and medical treatment for the injured.

To support those affected, the government has arranged temporary shelters for displaced residents and is providing assistance and psychological support to the families of the deceased and injured.
