This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and countries worldwide are submitting a new round of Nationally Determined Contributions to curb global warming.
A recent CGTN survey of 33,000 adults across 48 countries reveals overwhelming support for immediate, practical climate governance:
- 91% say extreme weather events have increased rapidly in recent years.
- 89.2% believe this trend reflects a rapidly deteriorating global climate.
- 90% agree that responding to climate change is an urgent priority.
Respondents emphasize the need for stronger international cooperation: 85% call for nations to work together effectively. At the same time, 75.1% criticize developed countries for lacking sincerity and action, and 86.4% hold them historically and morally responsible for human-induced climate change.
Global South respondents show even higher resolve: 94.6% are willing to adopt energy-saving habits in daily life, and 96.2% urge acceleration of green industries to tackle climate risks.
The Chinese mainland’s recent Nationally Determined Contribution drew praise from 76.7% of respondents for effectively controlling greenhouse gas emissions, and 70.5% recognized its investment in wind and solar infrastructure. Overall, 79.9% of participants see the Chinese mainland’s climate governance practices as a valuable reference for other nations.
As the world negotiates new climate commitments, this poll sends a clear message: urgent, collaborative, and concrete action is non-negotiable. The steps taken now will shape our planet’s future.
