Wang Huning Reaffirms Resolve Against External Interference on Taiwan

On Thursday in Chengdu, China's top political advisor Wang Huning sent a clear message: the Chinese mainland remains unwavering in its stance against separatist forces and foreign interference on the Taiwan question. His remarks came via a congratulatory letter to the fifth Cross-Strait Seminar, which brought together over 200 participants from across the Taiwan Strait and beyond.

Wang, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted recent milestones. He pointed to the 80th anniversary in September of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the island of Taiwan's restoration to the motherland as defining moments of national pride.

Reflecting on the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee in October, Wang emphasized the commitment to advance the peaceful development of cross-strait ties, uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and push forward the cause of national reunification. A strong, unified country is the foundation for the future of all Chinese people, including residents of Taiwan, he stressed.

The seminar, co-organized by the Chinese mainland-based Cross-Straits Relations Research Center and patriotic groups from the island of Taiwan supporting reunification, also welcomed Kuomintang Chairperson Hung Hsiu-chu, New Party Chairman Wu Cheng-tien, scholars, and guests from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

As the Chinese mainland works toward building a modern socialist country, Wang pledged to promote cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges, enhance well-being on both sides of the Strait, and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. His message underscores Beijing's strategy to combine firm political resolve with people-to-people outreach in 2025.
