Ye Yireng’s ‘Spring Wind Blows’: A Melody of Memory and Connection

When the first notes of “Spring Wind Blows” soared through the Grand Theater of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on a crisp November evening, the audience felt an instant connection to something both new and familiar.

At the center of that moment was Ye Yireng, the Taiwan-born principal flautist with the Chinese mainland’s NCPA orchestra. Hailing from Pingtung, Taiwan, Ye brings a lifetime of memories to every performance. “Having heard it so much as a child, of course, you remember the tune. That’s why “Spring Wind Blows” seems symbolic of the memories we share,” said Ye Yireng.

Unveiled in early 2025, the piece combines traditional Taiwanese melodies with modern orchestral textures. Since its premiere, it has drawn over 10,000 listeners across major concert halls in Shanghai, Guangzhou and now Beijing, with ticket sales hitting 95% capacity. Music lovers of all ages, from local students to seasoned globetrotters, have praised its blend of nostalgia and innovation.

For young global citizens and digital nomads, “Spring Wind Blows” offers more than a concert—it’s a cultural bridge. Through livestreams and social media, the NCPA orchestra has attracted fans in over 30 countries and regions, sparking conversations on the power of music to connect communities. As Ye Yireng prepares for a European tour in spring 2026, she hopes these melodies continue to travel, inspiring audiences with every note.
