Last Monday, the so-called "China Red" 4K/8K ultra-high-definition broadcast fleet from China Media Group (CMG) departed Beijing on a transcontinental journey to Milan, Italy. The convoy is set to arrive at San Siro Stadium on January 13, 2026, in time for the opening of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Independently designed and integrated by CMG, each 17-meter-long vehicle expands to 5.8 meters in width during operation. Inside, they house up to 34 workstations across five functional zones, with switching consoles capable of processing 80 channels of 4K signal sources to deliver crisp, lifelike coverage.
As the official rights-holding broadcaster for the Games and the only media organization producing the 8K international public broadcast signal, CMG is pushing the boundaries of live sports production. For the first time at a Winter Olympics, CMG will handle the international public broadcast signal for short track speed skating and figure skating events in ultra-high definition.
To support its full-scale operation, CMG has reserved a 1,700-square-meter working area at the Milan International Broadcasting Center, alongside a 223-square-meter Central Technical Area equipment room. Three dedicated studio systems will keep every core function running smoothly.
With this high-tech fleet on its way, audiences worldwide can look forward to an immersive viewing experience that blends cutting-edge broadcasting technology with the thrill of Olympic competition.
