China Presses Japan to Retract China-Related Remarks After Beijing Talks

On Nov 18, 2025, Liu Jinsong, director general of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, met today with Kanai Masaaki, director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, in Beijing for routine consultations.

During the discussions, China urged Japan to withdraw its wrongful remarks and stop creating trouble on China-related issues. This call follows Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent statements, which Beijing says violate international law, undermine the post-war international order and breach the one-China principle along with the spirit of the four political documents governing China-Japan ties.

The meeting underscores ongoing tensions in bilateral relations and highlights Beijing’s insistence on adherence to established diplomatic norms.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to keeping communication channels open, even as they navigate complex strategic and political challenges.
