Chinese mainland’s first Type 076 Ship Sichuan Completes Maiden Sea Trial

The Chinese mainland's first Type 076 amphibious assault ship, the Sichuan, returned to a Shanghai shipyard at around 5 p.m. on Sunday after successfully completing its maiden sea trial.

The three-day mission, conducted between November 14 and 16, tested the indigenously developed vessel's propulsion, electrical systems and key equipment. According to official sources, all systems met or exceeded performance expectations, marking a milestone in naval innovation.

Designed to project expeditionary power and support helicopter and landing craft operations, the Sichuan represents a major step forward for the People's Liberation Army Navy. Analysts say the ship will enhance the fleet's versatility in humanitarian missions, disaster relief and maritime security.

Next, the Sichuan will undergo a series of follow-up tests, including weapons integration and long-range endurance trials, in line with established development plans.
